Welcome to St Etheldreda class.

 

We are year 3/4.

 

Summer Term 2024

This term in science we will be learning about light and shadows and states of matter (solids, liquids and gases). Our history topic will be about the Anglo-Saxons. Our geography topic will be about world trade.

In English we will be reading alternative versions of traditional tales. We will work on Limericks in poetry. We will also learn about non-fiction biographies and recounts.

We will be working on mass and capacity, decimals (including money), time, statistics, properties of shape (year 3) and decimals (including money), time, statistics, position and direction (year 4) in maths.

Spring Term 2024

Our science topics this term will be food chains, digestion and teeth. Our history topic will be based around The Roman Empire. In geography we will be learning about volcanoes and earthquakes!

In English we will be reading Romans on the Rampage and basing our writing on it. We will also study some poetry. Our non-fiction focus will be explanations and instructions. We will also do some outdoor writing.

Autumn Term 2023

This term in science we will be learning about rocks and soils and electricity . Our history topic will be about the Stone Age and the Iron Age. Our geography topic will be about North America.

In English we will be fiction by Raymond Briggs. We will work on poetry around a theme. We will also learn about non-fiction instructions and non-chronological reports.

We will be working on place value and addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in maths.

This term in science we will be learning about animals, including humans . Our history topic will be about World War Two and how it affected the local area. Our geography topic will be about farming and learning about where our food comes from.

In English we will be reading a play script. We will work on poetry around a theme. We will also learn about non-fiction recounts in the form of letters and diaries.

Autumn Term 2022

Our science topics this term will be Forces and Magnets and Conductors and Insulators. Our history topic will be The Victorians, with a focus on The Railways. In geography we will be learning about counties and cities in the UK

In English we will be reading a modern fable (The Tin Forest) and basing our writing on it. We will look at structure in poetry and read and write Haiku and Tanka. Our non-fiction focus will be non-chronological reports.

Summer Term 2022

This term we will be learning about light and shadows in science. Our history topic will be all about the history of the Monarchy and our geography topic will be the countries and cities of the UK.

In English we will be reading a story from another culture. We will also carry out a poet study. We will look at persuasive writing and write a leaflet encouraging visitors to come to a seaside town which we will visit with the whole school.

 

Spring Term 2022

Our science topic this term will be Animals including Humans, and we will also have lots of exciting science related learning during science week. Our history topic will be The Tudors and in geography we will be learning about using maps, globes and atlases.

In English we will be reading and writing an adventure story, a non-fiction recount and also enjoying some poetry based on The Tempest to link with Shakespeare Week.

 

Autumn Term 2021

This term we will be learning about materials in science. Our history topic will be about the Vikings and in geography we will be learning about earthquakes and volcanoes. 

We will be basing our English around these main themes.

 

Summer Term 2021

This term we will be learning about plants in science. Our history topic will be about The Mayan Civilisation and in geography we will be learning about the rainforest.

We will be basing our English around these themes and also will be writing poetry inspired by song.

In maths we will continue working on fractions and statistics. We will also learn about shape and measure. Year 4 will also learn about decimals.

 

Spring Term 2021

This term we are learning about The Ancient Greeks in history, Europe and maps in geography and sound in science.

We will be basing our English around these themes.

In maths we will be focusing on multiplication and division, measure (length) and fractions.

Autumn Term 2020

This term we are learning about The Ancient Egyptians in history, Rivers and The Water Cycle in geography and States of Matter in science.
